Background

Internally Displaced People in Bangladesh prominently deals with the environmental migrants. Did you ever think about those people of our country who have been forced to leave the place they were born and brought up due to sudden or long-term changes to their local environment which compromise their well-being or secure livelihood? Can you guess how large number of people is obliged to leave their habitual homes, or choose to migrate internally every year for river erosion, floods, cyclones, droughts or water scarcity? It’s huge. This has been already an issue of concern worldwide. Since 2009, an estimated one person every second has been displaced by a disaster on this planet (IDMC 2015). Bangladesh, being particularly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, definitely needs a proper attention in this case.

Internally Displaced People in Bangladesh has been trying to conceptualize the potential societal effects of climate change and general environmental degradation. We are focusing on the affected people and their stories. Some of them have been forced to leave their homes in search of a new beginning. Some other people have been trying to adapt to this situation. They tell us about their lives and struggles. We are sharing these stories with you. These are the stories which have never been told.

Vision

Internally Displaced People of Bangladesh wants to create a platform for the refugees to raise their voice. We want to empower them so that they can express what they really deserve. We want to create public awareness about these displaced communities in Bangladesh. This site will simultaneously help the policy-makers, environmental and social scientists, the engineers and technologists, the donors and the researchers all over the world to find out the real scenario of the refugees here. In Climate Refugees of Bangladesh , We don’t show any statistics, we want to tell you the whole story.

Mission

We have been trying to reach every corner of the country gradually, from the slums of Dhaka, the major capital, to the remotest village near a billowy river. We interview the affected people and try to find out their stories. How do they fight against all the odds? Where do they find the strength to adapt to a new place? Then we focus on our research based on the information we collect from the field.
